Thank you for your efforts to defeat the Oman Free Trade Agreement. The Bush administration thought it would be an easy sell to Congress, but together we made it another high profile fight over the direction of U.S. trade policy. And we made it almost certain that Congress would not take up the Peru Free Trade Agreement until after the election.
Our loss on Oman reinforces the lesson from last year’s CAFTA vote: we need a different Congress – one that will stand up for working families, the environment, public health and democracy; reject NAFTA expansion; and promote better alternatives. That is the reason Citizens Trade Campaign formed a political action committee.
We are asking you to become a member of Citizens Trade Campaign as a step towards that better Congress. Under federal law, CTC can communicate only with our members about political issues, and can only ask our members to support our political action initiatives.
This fall we will implement an innovative program to help replace free traders in Congress with fair traders. You can be part of that effort, but only if you first become a member of CTC.
